Lmnx.io is dedicated to creating games that reveal deeper truths about how the world works. We recognize that the challenges most important to humanity—such as drug-related crime, populism, education, healthcare, family dynamics, and business—are inherently complex. These systems are filled with counterintuitive dynamics and intricate causal relationships.
Our lives are profoundly shaped by these powerful mechanisms. At times, they may seem like unstoppable forces of nature, beyond our control. But with understanding, we can decipher and even reshape them. At Lmnx.io, our mission is to empower people to do just that—for the benefit of humanity.
The Level 2 games evolve iteratively over extended periods, potentially indefinitely. We construct the models from the ground up, with each new addition generating insights that propel our work forward.
Some nodes continue to expand and branch into new sections, while others link back to existing ones. In the early stages, model development is typically marked by rapid, exponential branching, resembling an ever-growing infinite tree. However, as the model matures, many branches begin to reconnect—either to other branches or back to themselves—transforming the structure from a simple tree into a complex web filled with closed loops.
A mature model thus forms a sophisticated network of causal circuits alongside some open-ended branches. At the tips of these open-ended branches lie exogenous factors—elements unaffected by other nodes within the system. These exogenous factors often serve as levers that can be pulled to influence system behavior. For example, in politics, a trade tariff might act as such a lever; in business, diversification; and in human relationships, the way one chooses to respond to criticism.
Level 0: This initial model is not intended to be realistic or actionable. Instead, it serves as a conceptual illustration of the intuitive way many people think about drug-related crime. Numerous governments have historically based anti-crime policies—and gained political support—on this simplistic viewpoint.
Level 1: While still myopic, this model effectively challenges and invalidates the assumptions made at Level 0, offering a more nuanced understanding of the issue.
Level 2: At this stage, we delve much deeper. This evolving model captures the complex and dynamic interactions between politics, law enforcement, healthcare, media, public opinion, and more. We invite you to follow our ongoing work and contribute to advancing this comprehensive perspective.
Analyzing these three representations of drug-related crime reveals, among other things, a recurring pattern common to most complex socioeconomic issues: truly effective solutions are seldom obvious or easy to communicate, while those that are simple to pitch to the public often come with significant—sometimes exponential—negative side effects. This creates a paradox: the most impactful responses remain hidden or overlooked, while superficial solutions gain traction, providing fertile ground for populist rhetoric. In essence, it’s a win for populists when the real answers aren’t salient.
Global economics is a vast and intricate system—truly a monster of complexity. Even smaller-scale systems, such as individual business ventures, exhibit remarkable complexity and often display counterintuitive dynamics.
At the heart of these systems lies a fundamental concept: value. But what exactly do we mean by value? It’s not measured by time or effort, nor is it simply tangible assets like diamonds, gold, oil, or land. Instead, value can be understood as the solution to a problem. When a problem is urgent, an effective solution holds great value—regardless of whether the means to pay for it are currently available. Moreover, if a problem is frequent and widespread, the potential value of its solution increases exponentially.
Money, in this context, serves as a token of value. By design, it can be exchanged for solutions to a wide array of problems, making it a versatile and universal medium. In essence, money represents a near-panacea—a gateway to solving almost any challenge.
Exploring these themes will take us through the dynamics of business, the complexities of international trade, and the many facets of our past, present, and future civilization.
